Newcastle Ship Queue May Fall by Half in June, Coal Chain Says

(Bloomberg) -- The queue of ships waiting to load coal at Newcastle, Australia, the world's largest coal-export harbor, may shorten by about half by June, according to an industry group.

The number of vessels may drop to 54 by the end of May and 39 by the end of June based on forecast arrivals, the Hunter Valley Coal Chain Logistics Team, which is responsible for planning all coal exports from the region, said on its Web site. It also said Newcastle's export capacity increased to 7.8 million tons of coal a month in April from 6.6 million in February.
