US STOCKS-S&P, Nasdaq extend losses, fall 2 pct

(Reuters) - The Dow Jones industrial average was down 171.60
points, or 1.27 percent, at 13,291.73. The Standard & Poor's
500 Index was down 28.13 points, or 1.91 percent, at
1,444.07. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 49.53
points, or 1.92 percent, at 2,526.45.

Sandisk, Micron rise after Samsung chip outage

(Reuters) - Conversely, some consumer electronics makers may be forced to pay more for NAND flash, a slim form of flash memory with no moving parts that is poised to eventually take over a market once dominated by clunkier hard drives.




For example, Apple Inc. uses NAND flash in some of its iPod digital media player devices. Shares of Apple fell 1.34 percent to $134.66 in early trading on Friday on Nasdaq.

Stocks set for steady start ahead of jobs data

(Reuters) - By 6:05 a.m. EDT S&P and Dow futures were flat, while Nasdaq futures eased 0.1 percent. European stocks were steady but dipped from early highs.




Citigroup chief executive Charles Prince said the recent market pullback "feels sharp," but he was bullish on the bank's growth, the New York Times said on its Web site.

UPDATE 1-Buffalo Wild Wings quarterly profit up, but stock falls

(Reuters) - BANGALORE, July 31 - Restaurant chain Buffalo
Wild Wings Inc. on Tuesday reported higher quarterly
profit and said same-store sales rose 8.1 percent at
company-owned restaurants.




Shares of the Minneapolis-based company fell more than 17
percent in late electronic trade to $35.70, after closing at
$43.22 on the Nasdaq.

US STOCKS-Nasdaq falls 1 percent; Apple leads decliners

(Reuters) - The Dow Jones industrial average was down 100.07
points, or 0.75 percent, at 13,258.24. The Standard & Poor's
500 Index was down 13.54 points, or 0.92 percent, at
1,460.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 28.51
points, or 1.10 percent, at 2,554.77.

US STOCKS-Futures cut losses, point to flat open

(Reuters) - After steep losses earlier, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq index
futures briefly turned positive after the data on gross
domestic product in a volatile session.




S&P 500 futures were off 1.30 points, below fair
value, a mathematical formula that evaluates pricing by taking
into account interest rates, dividends and time to expiration
on the contract.

UPDATE 1-FirstCity Financial posts Q1 loss, lower Q4 profit

(Reuters) - Shares of the financial services company were down almost
13 percent at $8.85 in morning trade on the Nasdaq Tuesday,
after falling to a year-low of $8.51 earlier in the day.




The company posted a loss of $914,699, or 8 cents a share,
for the first quarter ended March 31, compared with a profit of
$2.0 million, or 17 cents a share, in the year-ago period.

UPDATE 1-Astec quarterly profits jump; shares hit year-high

(Reuters) - Shares of the Chattanooga, Tennessee-based company shot up
to their year-high on Monday and were trading up about 11
percent at $52.90 in morning trade on the Nasdaq.




The stock rose as high as $54.00 in early trade.

UPDATE 1-Medtox shares sink on quarterly earnings miss

(Reuters) - "The market's expectations for this stock were quite high.
Also it's had a very good run up, people may simply be taking
profits," Robins Group analyst Ruthanne Williams Roussel said
by phone.




The St. Paul, Minneapolis-based company's shares were down
$5.35 at $21.31 in afternoon trade on the Nasdaq. They had
risen more than 160 percent since February to touch a year-high
of $31.63 on July 5.

UPDATE 1-Beauty retailer Ulta files for $115 million IPO

(Reuters) - The beauty retailer said in a registration statement with
the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that JPMorgan,
Wachovia Securities, Thomas Weisel Partners LLC, Cowen and Co.,
and Piper Jaffray are underwriting the IPO.




Ulta said it is applying to list its stock on the Nasdaq
under the symbol "ULTA" .

US STOCKS-Dow, S&P futures turn negative as yields rise

(Reuters) - S&P 500 futures fell 0.40 point, even with fair
value, a mathematical formula that evaluates pricing by taking
into account interest rates, dividends and time to expiration
on the contract.




Dow Jones industrial average futures were down 20
points, and Nasdaq 100 futures were up 3.50 points.

Chinese game developer Perfect World files for IPO

(Reuters) - The preliminary filing did not state how many ADSs the
company intends to offer or their expected price.




Perfect World plans to list its ADSs on the Nasdaq under
the symbol "PWRD" .

Citigroup buys Automated Trading Desk

(Reuters) - The largest U.S. bank will pay $102.6 million in cash and issue about 11.17 million shares.




Founded in 1988, Automated Trading Desk has about 120 broker-dealer customers and trades, on average, more than 200 million shares daily, or 6 percent of the volume on both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.
