Novo Nordisk ups outlook as earnings rise

COPENHAGEN, Aug 3 - Denmark's Novo Nordisk A/S posted a 14 percent increase in first-half operating profit on Friday on improving sales and margins, and increased its full-year outlook for operating profit growth.

Tupperware posts higher quarterly profit

Iran Doesn't Back OPEC Output Increase in September, Ministry Agency Says

(Bloomberg) -- Iran, the second-largest producer in
OPEC, doesn't support an increase in oil production at the
group's next meeting because high prices are being caused by
geopolitical issues and U.S. gasoline shortages, Shana reported.

Iran won't favor a production increase if the oil market
situation remains the same, the Tehran-based oil ministry press
agency said, citing Oil Minister Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh.

UPDATE 1-TSMC Q2 profit falls, but recovery under way

(Reuters) - TAIPEI, July 26 - The world's largest contract chip
maker, Taiwan's TSMC , posted a 25 percent fall
in quarterly profit, but the result improved from the previous
quarter thanks to fresh chip demand and was in line with analyst
expectations.




After a dismal start to the year, clients are placing big
semiconductor orders for new-generation personal computers,
mobile phones and other consumer gadgets, boding well for TSMC
and rival United Microelectronics Corp.
in the second half.

REFILE-Hugo Boss does not support Permira takeover offer

(Reuters) - FRANKFURT, July 20 - Hugo Boss on Friday declined to support private equity firm Permira's [PERM.UL] takeover offer for the German menswear group.



It said its supervisory and management board members found the offer not very attractive and would not tender their shares. But the members did not give a formal recommendation on the bid.

Canada Stocks Rise on Oil Prices, Led by Suncor; Research In Motion Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian stocks rose after oil prices
reached an 11-month high and the biggest mobile-phone operator in
Japan said it would begin selling Research In Motion Ltd.
BlackBerry devices next week.

Suncor Energy Inc., the world's second-largest oil-sands
producer, helped lift the S&P/TSX Composite Index. OPEC ministers
said the group should keep its restrictions on crude oil
production. Research In Motion shares gained after NTT DoCoMo Inc.
said it will start selling Blackberry devices that browse Japanese
Web sites and input Japanese text.

Crude Oil Reaches 11-Month High; OPEC May Maintain Cuts, U.S. Supply Fall

(Bloomberg) -- Crude oil rose to an 11-month high in
New York on higher demand after OPEC ministers said the group
should maintain its restrictions on production.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries yesterday
raised a forecast for demand for its crude by 100,000 barrels to
31.1 million barrels a day in the fourth quarter. The U.S. Energy
Department will probably report tomorrow that crude-oil supplies
fell 700,000 barrels in the week to July 13, according to analysts
surveyed by Bloomberg News.

Algeria seeks to trim diesel import bill

(Reuters) - OPEC-member Algeria sees as "inescapable" a planned decision to increase domestic diesel oil prices, a step aimed at easing the amount imported, Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil said on Saturday.

Raising prices is "a strategic and inescapable option," the official news agency APS quoted him as saying.

UPDATE 1-Siemens opens VDO to buyers, prefers IPO -source

(Reuters) - A Siemens spokesman said the German conglomerate still
planned a partial IPO for VDO after German business daily
Handelsblatt reported that would-be buyer Continental
had begun due diligence on the firm, which could fetch as much
as 10 billion euros .




Handelsblatt said Siemens was opening VDO's books for three
interested parties, which included U.S. car parts supplier TRW
and a private equity bidder that could be Permira
[PERM.UL] or KKR [KKR.UL].

US STOCKS-Indexes flat on rate worry; Texas Instruments falls

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, June 11 - U.S. stocks ended little
changed on Monday as rising oil prices boosted the energy
sector but lingering concern about higher interest rates kept
investors on the defensive.




Exxon Mobil Corp. helped lead the Standard &
Poor's 500 index higher as oil prices rose nearly 2
percent on news Saudi Arabia will keep OPEC supply limits in
place through July.

Oil inches up after slide as supply worries remain

(Reuters) - Oil prices edged higher on Monday, as dealers saw a buying opportunity after a sharp slide, with OPEC producers maintaining supply curbs and worries remaining over U.S. summer gasoline supplies.

London Brent crude, seen as currently more representative of the global market, rose 19 cents to $68.79 a barrel at 0412 GMT, after plunging by $2.62 on Friday amid a commodities sell-off on fears of slower economic growth. U.S. crude rose 15 cents to $64.91 after a $2.17 drop.

Taiwan's Taishin to take 51 pct in Aegon venture

(Reuters) - TAIPEI, June 8 - Taishin Financial , Taiwan's No. 2 financial holding firm by assets, said on Friday it will take a 51 percent stake in a T$2 billion insurance joint venture to be formed with Dutch insurer Aegon NV .



Separately, Aegon will purchase a 2.5 percent stake of Chang Hwa Bank from Taishin and aims to use Taishin's network to market its products. Terms of that purchase were not disclosed. "This tie up indicates Aegon's strong ambition in the Taiwan market. We hope to sell more insurance and pension products through more than 200 branches of Taishin," an executive from Aegon's Taiwan office said at a news conference.

OPEC oil output edges higher in May - Reuters survey

(Reuters) - OPEC boosted crude oil output in May as higher supply from members including Algeria and the United Arab Emirates countered a drop in Nigeria, a Reuters survey showed on Friday.

Ten OPEC members bound by output targets, all except Iraq and Angola, pumped 26.76 million barrels per day (bpd), up 110,000 bpd from April, according to the survey of oil companies, traders, OPEC officials and analysts.

APEC to Study Impact of State-Owned Oil Companies, Consider Nuclear Body

(Bloomberg) -- Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
energy ministers will later today call for a working group to
examine the effects on trade and investment of state-owned oil
and gas companies, according to a draft communiqué.

The working group will be directed also to study how
partnering and cooperating with state-owned companies could
``improve the value chain'' in oil and gas supply, according to
the draft statement obtained by Bloomberg News in advance of the
release of the final communiqué later today. APEC nations will
also be encouraged to consider setting up a regional association
of nuclear safeguard authorities, the draft says.
