Angola building hotels as oil boom fuels demand

(Reuters) - Booming Angola is building dozens of hotels and guesthouses to meet rising demand that has pushed the price of a room in the capital Luanda to $250 per night, the country's tourism minister said on Friday.

The southwestern African state also needs thousands of new hotel rooms to accommodate visitors to an international diamond summit in 2009 and the African Cup of Nations soccer tournament, which it will host in 2010. About 2,000 people have already registered for the summit.

BP sees near-term pressure on earnings

(Reuters) - BP also said it expected its Atlantis oil platform in the
Gulf of Mexico and its Greater Plutonio project off Angola to
start up by the end of this year and forecast its Texas City
operation would be processing 400,000 barrels per day by the end
of the year.

Crude Oil Rises 11-Month in New York as Total Curbs Shipments From Angola

(Bloomberg) -- Crude oil rose to an 11-month high
in New York after Total SA said it would curb exports from the
Dalia field in Angola because of a mechanical failure.

Total declared force majeure, a legal clause meaning
deliveries are suspended because of conditions beyond the
company's control, after production at the 240,000-barrel-a-day
field was cut by 50 percent. Prices also rose because a
government report yesterday showed that U.S. gasoline supplies
declined last week.

Total Declares Force Majeure at Dalia Field in Angola on Generator Fault

(Bloomberg) -- Total SA, Europe's largest oil
refiner, declared ``force majeure'' on exports from its 240,000-
barrel-a-day Dalia field in Angola after a generator fault cut
production by 50 percent.

Force majeure, a clause exempting producers from making
deliveries because of circumstances beyond their control, was
issued yesterday after a problem with two turbo-generators,
Patricia Marie, a company spokeswoman, said by telephone from
Total's Paris headquarters today.

Chinese-funded car plant to open in Angola - report

(Reuters) - Angola plans to begin producing cars later this year through a venture funded by a Chinese firm and based on technology from Japan's Nissan Motor Co., a state-run newspaper reported on Tuesday.

CSG Automovel-Angola, established with money from Hong Kong's China International Fund (CIF), will begin producing pick-ups, SUVs, compact cars and other vehicles in October at a factory on the outskirts of Luanda, the Jornal de Angola said.

Angola forcibly deports thousands of Congo miners

(Reuters) - Nearly 30,000 people have streamed across the border into southwest Democratic Republic of Congo after Angola began deporting illegal Congolese workers from its mining zones, officials and U.N. radio said on Tuesday.

The acting governor of Congo's Western Kasai province, Hubert Mbingho, said on Tuesday around 13,000 people have arrived there since the forced expulsions began at the weekend.

OPEC oil output edges higher in May - Reuters survey

(Reuters) - OPEC boosted crude oil output in May as higher supply from members including Algeria and the United Arab Emirates countered a drop in Nigeria, a Reuters survey showed on Friday.

Ten OPEC members bound by output targets, all except Iraq and Angola, pumped 26.76 million barrels per day (bpd), up 110,000 bpd from April, according to the survey of oil companies, traders, OPEC officials and analysts.
