European Stocks Advance, Led by Volkswagen on Profit; Nokia, Siemens Gain

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rose for the first
time in four days after Volkswagen AG, the region's largest
carmaker, reported earnings that exceeded analysts' estimates and
investors speculated this week's sell-off was overdone.

Volkswagen paced gains by automakers. Nokia Oyj, the world's
biggest mobile-phone maker, rallied after a five-day decline, and
Siemens AG, Europe's largest engingeering company, rebounded from
a two-month low.

European Stocks Decline; Barclays, Siemens, Royal Dutch Shell Lead Drop

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks fell for a second
day, led by banks and exporters, on concern that mounting U.S.
mortgage losses will hamper the world's biggest economy and slow
global expansion.

Barclays Plc, the U.K.'s third-largest bank, and engineering
company Siemens AG led declines. Royal Dutch Shell Plc retreated
after Goldman, Sachs & Co. recommended investors sell the oil
producer's shares.

UPDATE 1-Siemens opens VDO to buyers, prefers IPO -source

(Reuters) - A Siemens spokesman said the German conglomerate still
planned a partial IPO for VDO after German business daily
Handelsblatt reported that would-be buyer Continental
had begun due diligence on the firm, which could fetch as much
as 10 billion euros .




Handelsblatt said Siemens was opening VDO's books for three
interested parties, which included U.S. car parts supplier TRW
and a private equity bidder that could be Permira
[PERM.UL] or KKR [KKR.UL].

Germany's DAX Index Falls for Fifth Day; MAN, Commerzbank, Siemens Retreat

(Bloomberg) -- German stocks retreated for a fifth
day, led by MAN AG, Commerzbank AG and Siemens AG.

The benchmark DAX Index lost 73.40, or 1 percent, to
7545.21 as of 9:04 a.m. in Frankfurt. The HDAX Index of the
country's 110 biggest companies also dropped 1 percent.

UPDATE 1-Siemens expects big SEC fine in bribery case-paper

(Reuters) - It has not set aside any provisions to handle this and in
the worst case could also face U.S. sanctions, including
exclusion from bidding for certain contracts, he told the
Sueddeutsche Zeitung in an interview to be published on
Saturday.




"We are doing our utmost to avoid sanctions," he said,
adding that Siemens would show by painstakingly correct
behaviour that it would no longer tolerate any shady dealings.

German Stocks Including Siemens, Bayer Rise; Continental Shares Decline

(Bloomberg) -- German stocks including Siemens AG
advanced after the engineering company named Merck & Co.'s Peter
Loescher as its chief executive officer to succeed Klaus
Kleinfeld.

Bayer AG climbed after UBS AG raised its share-price
estimate. Continental AG paced falling shares.
