(Bloomberg) -- The U.K.'s FTSE 100 Index gained. Shares in J Sainsbury Plc, a U.K. supermarket chain, surged.
The benchmark FTSE 100 rose 22.3, or 0.4 percent, to 6451.80 at 8:14 a.m. in London.
