(Reuters) - The bill "include elements that are essential for proper regulatory oversight of the housing GSEs and for protecting the safety and soundness of the housing finance system and the broader financial system," a White House statement reads.
Fannie and Freddie are known as government-sponsored enterprises because they hold federal charters to promote home ownership.
