UPDATE 2-Sony Ericsson Q2 sales up, profit below consensus

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 11 - Sony Ericsson, the world's
fourth-biggest mobile phone maker, posted higher second-quarter
sales on Wednesday but its profit and its average phone sale
prices were below analysts' estimates.




The cellphone venture of Sweden's Ericsson and
Japan's Sony Corp. , known for higher-end music
phones based on its Walkman brand, said it gained market share in
the quarter by selling lower-priced phones that widened its
potential customer base.

Nikkei down 1.1 pct on Wall St fall, stronger yen

(Reuters) - Investors sold a wide range of stocks including high-tech exporters such as Sony Corp. that had led the market's recent rally.




Shares of Millea Holdings Inc. and other insurers also declined on concerns that a fall in bond yields would hurt income from investments in government bonds. Insurers invest much of the money they collect from policy holders in bonds.

Japan's Shares Climb for Sixth Day; Sony Gains on Yen, Retailers Advance

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese shares advanced for a sixth
day. Sony Corp. led gains on speculation exporters' profits
increased in the three months ended in June, aided by a weak yen.

Retailers climbed, led by Seven & I Holdings Co. after
companies including Aeon Mall Co. reported higher income in the
first quarter.

Japanese Stocks Rise, Led by Exporters on U.S. Factory Orders; Inpex Slips

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese exporter shares rose after
factory orders in the world's largest economy fell less than
predicted, adding to confidence in the outlook for the U.S.,
Japan's No. 1 overseas market.

Nintendo Co. jumped to a record and Sony Corp. climbed for
the first time in three sessions.

Japanese Exporter Shares May Rise as Yen Ends Advance; Sony Seen Gaining

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's exporter stocks may advance,
helping the Nikkei 225 Stock Average rebound from a four-day
slide, after the yen reversed a strengthening trend and some U.S.
investment houses said they see few risks of widespread turmoil
in credit markets.

Sony Corp. lost 4.4 percent during the past three sessions
as the yen strengthened and concerns about the U.S. housing
market spread. Honda Motor Co. fell 1.6 percent.

Asian Stocks Decline on Concern Over U.S. Home Sales; China Shares Plunge

(Bloomberg) -- Asian shares fell, led by Sony Corp.
and BHP Billiton Ltd., on concern figures this week will show a
drop in U.S. home sales, signaling declining demand in the
region's largest export market.

``Stocks globally take a fall every time there's more bad
news on U.S. housing-related or lending data because there's a
threat that this may spill over into other parts of the
economy,'' said Eric Betts, a strategist at Nomura Australia Ltd.
in Sydney. ``This wouldn't be good for companies that depend on
the U.S. consumer.''

Japanese Stocks May Drop; Sony, Exporters May Pace Losses on U.S. Concerns

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks may decline, led by
companies relying on U.S. sales such as Sony Corp., on concern
losses from the faltering subprime market will be worse than
expected.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index had its biggest weekly drop
since early March. The U.S. was the largest overseas market for
Sony last business year.

Japan's Stocks May Rise, Led by Sony on Stronger-Than-Expected U.S. Growth

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese shares may gain after reports
showed employment and manufacturing growth in the U.S., Japan's
largest overseas market, expanded more than expected. Exporters
such as Sony Corp. may pace advances.

U.S. companies hired last month at almost twice the pace in
April and manufacturing unexpectedly accelerated in May as orders
picked up, while inflation climbed less than economists forecast.

Japanese Shares Rebound on Higher Commodity Prices, Weaker Yen; Sony Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks rebounded from their
biggest loss in a month, led by trading companies, after
commodities prices rose at the end of last week. Exporters
advanced after the yen weakened against the dollar and euro,
boosting the value of their overseas sales.

Mitsui & Co., Japan's second-largest trading company,
jumped 1.7 percent. Sony Corp., the maker of the PlayStation 3
game console, rose for the first time in four days.
